How can I correctly change my hair color from dark brown to blonde?

My mom (a licensed cosmetologist) says I should not bleach my hair because it will damage it. The problem is, I can't just dye it because it turns a gold/orange color.

I see all these people (school, work, in movies) who had dark brown hair and now have fabulous blonde hair - how did they do it??

There is no other way to be able to get blonde hair other than bleach. Unless you have very thin and brittle hair, then the bleach won't do noticable damage if you only bleach it once, and follow up with good conditioner

The only way to do it is to bleach the hair but you will need to have a serious deep condition after so you don't damage your hair. You should go to a salon where they can put a conditoner in your hair then put you under the dryer for 45 mins so it soaks in. You hair will be fine after, so no worries.
