How do I dye my hair 2 tone (blonde on top, dark underneath)?

i have naturally dark blonde hair and the summer blonde highlights are growing out, its so damaged from overprocessing it looks horrid.

i want a more natural transition back to original color look without going all the way dark.

I'm scared I'll fry off the rest of my hair.

And what is a good conditioner to use after-my super straight hair is always a tangly mess.

The hair is always tangled probably because each strand individually is very fine while maybe there is a lot of it, making it appear thick- in addition to being over processed.

I've seen the instant tangle happen in this context so many times, and there isn't much to do to fix that problem... even if you stop/reduce the amount of processing you do.

Goldwell conditioner is awesome for this problem, but it's a bit expensive.

As far as going closer back to you darker blonde color... i think you should just buy a medium/dark blond (non-ash) tone, and dye the whole thing... the parts that are porous and dry, will oxidize in a few days, and therefore become lighter, as they are not as able to hold color due to damage. It will appear like natural highlights. Just don't leave the dye in past the time limit (25 mins on avg)- or it will have a greater penetration on the highlighted parts.

If you hair really is dark blonde (and not light brown) when your roots start growing out, there shouldn't be a noticeable transition.
