Can red cabbage remove yellow from my blonde hair?!?

I have quite healthy fine hair considering the amount i chemically prossess it isn't that dry or brittle. Bt the thing is i bleached my dark brown hair then when it was at the yellow stage (i read this on the net) that u should dye it ... so i dyed it a dark blonde and for the first two weeks it looked g8 bt now if im in sunlight or florecent lighting it looks yellow (i think its my hairs under tones) ....neways i read somewhere that if u boil red cabbage then pour the purple water through ur hair it will neutrilise it....is this true or can anyone suggest anythin else?

Thank you

Can red cabbage remove yellow from my blonde hair?!?

it is true purple will neutralise any yellow in the hair, but i would not recommend the cabbage in case it stains the hair. you can get a purple /silver/violet shampoo from your hairdressers to do the same thing

Please, don't do that. Your hair will smell like cabbage.

Buy a shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair.

Try Clairol Shimmerlights Shampoo.

I would really suggest trying a stylist and just getting a toner done. Yes, they'll use a violet color but it will cancel out the yellow and your hair will look more natural. Cabbage.....no.

Can red cabbage remove yellow from my blonde hair?!?

may i suggest john frieda shampoo and conditioner for people with blonde hair instead of the cabbage trick. that way youre less likely to stain your hair.

Can red cabbage remove yellow from my blonde hair?!?

I might because red cabbage juice is a base (learned that in Biology/Chemistry) But idk if it would stain or not,hmm you should try it I doubt it will stain. Try John Frieda's line for blondes they have chemicals in there to keep it blonda not brassy or w/e...

Can red cabbage remove yellow from my blonde hair?!?

as a salon owner and a stylist, red cabbage lovely with your dinner, but on your head I would think not, the answer for you is to go to a Sally's hair store or a good chemist and buy a toner for the colour you want and hey presto cabbage for dinner, the colour hair you want, as a stylist for over 15 years it never ceases to amaze me about these story's they are old wifes tales or wind up's and have no place in hairdressing

get a toner and you are sorted

  1. Looks like a lot of people are grossed out about putting cabbage water on your head. You eat cabbage, it's natural and healthy, how is putting cabbage water as a rinse at all grosser than steeping your hair in noxious chemicals loaded with irritatants and preservatives? I don't understand how using food grade products (like actual vegetables) in a beauty routine is "ew, gross" but putting something on your head that you have to wear gloves to use and keep away from eyes and mouth so you don't get rashes or chemical burns is NOT considered disgusting...

    1. I fully agree with you! People are out of their minds. I'd rather use cabbage than ammonia. Great response! You rock.

  2. I've been hairdressing 26 yrs, now completely allergic to hair dyes & clothing dyes even though I used gloves...I'm not allergic to bleach. I'm researching a safe blonde toning alternative & definitely going to test red cabbage water boiled, cooled, then left on hair 30mins at least to neutralise the yellow tones. A month ago I'd have said use toning shampoo to ppl too, but guess what!? The dye ingredients are in them too & the allergic reaction is just not worth it!
Chemists have cleverly altered PPD & its 'cousin ' chemicals (basically still PPD) are in almost every hair colour on the market in some form :( Red Cabbage is worth a try
